Now, there are things I want out of this life. I have hopes and dreams but the scripture that came to my mind was from Matthew 6:33. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness: and all these things will be added unto you."
Then I remembered what someone told me once--something I disagreed with. They claimed that God's Word would work for them even if they were not living for God. For instance: They could put money in the offering plate, live like the devil and expect to be blessed because God's word says: Give and you shall receive.
I thought about the kind of heart God wanted me to have and I knew it was not the kind of heart where I followed His word just so I could receive something. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; AND all these things will be added unto you." He didn't say SO all these things will be added unto you.
I don't believe God wants me to seek His kingdom and His righteousness SO I can receive things I need although He does want me to receive the things I need. His Word is giving me information on what will happen; His Word is explaining how He governs--how He caused things to be, WHO HE IS. It's not about me.
I pray today that as I seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, may I be doing it because He is God and deserves to be my priority. He deserves my mind to contemplate His will and follow His leading as I reach for His divine purpose in my life.
If I do these things SO I will receive, I have missed out on the very heart of worship to an all-powerful, all-knowing, all-seeing, magnificent God who deserves a heart focused on Him simply because He is GOD.
